You never know who’s going to want a little Soul in their lives, especially when it’s a Kia Soul. According to Kia Charlotte, the funky hatchback has been embraced by critics and the culture-conscious both since its launch, and now Kia’s “urban passenger vehicle” is getting hugs from a new source: Parents magazine and the noted auto observers at Edmunds.com have teamed up to name the Kia Soul to the “Best Family Cars for 2010″ list.
Deemed a “worthy choice for young families,” the Soul also was lauded for its unique mix of practicality on the inside and inimitable style on the outside. Of course, with that “practical” interior also offering goodies like a premium sound system with door-mounted speakers—and pulsating lights—the Soul delivers the best of both worlds.
And how’s this for a mash-up: The cool Kia also combines limited-run editions features names like the “Denim Soul,” “Ignition Soul” and “Shadow Dragon Soul” with the latest safety-technology names like “Electronic Stability Control,” “Electronic Brake Distribution” and “Tire Pressure Monitoring System.”
But even with all these features, the Soul is remarkably light on the bank account. It lives up to its billing as an honoree in the “Budget” category by starting with an MSRP of just $13,300. It’s a thrifty customer at the gas pumps, too, achieving EPA ratings of 26 mpg city/31 mpg higway/28 mpg combined.
Those are the kind of numbers that add up to a very family-friendly package, and it’s worth noting that actual families did help choose the vehicles on the Parents/Edmunds.com list.
So maybe it is true that happy families are all alike—at least when it comes to their high opinion of the Kia Soul.
