Forte, Soul Named to Forbes List of Safest Small Cars

Proving once again that big-time safety can come in relatively small packages, Forbes magazine recently named both the Kia Forte and the Kia Soul to its Safest Small Cars, 2011″ list.

The publication based its choices on data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which also just happened to honor the Forte and Soul as Top Safety Picks. This recognition is only given to vehicles that earn the highest possible ratings in IIHS front, side, rear and rollover crash testing, as well as offer electronic stability control—a potentially life-saving technology that is standard on the Forte and Kia Soul. Forbes also noted that the two Kias boast a boatload of other standard safety features, including active headrests, advanced front air bags, side-curtain air bags, side-impact door beams, front and rear crumple zones, antilock brakes with brake assist, stability control, traction control and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Both also feature electronic brake-force distribution, which can automatical adjusts the braking force applied to each individual wheel to optimize stopping. And the Soul adds an impact-absorbing steering-wheel column, too.
